For over 38 years, Craig Apple has devoted his energy to develop safer communities with justice-focused solutions.
After much reflection, I have made the difficult decision that I will not be seeking a fifth term as your Albany County Sheriff.
Serving the people of Albany County has been the honor of a lifetime. Thank you for placing your trust and confidence in me over the years and allowing me to live my dream job. Together, we have accomplished so much. From strengthening public safety and building stronger relationships throughout our communities to creating programs that have changed lives, I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together.
My father always told me, “Leave a place better than when you found it.” I have carried those words with me every day of my career. Looking back, I truly believe we have done just that. None of it would have been possible without the extraordinary men and women of the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, our community partners, and the unwavering support of the residents of Albany County.
For the foreseeable future, I remain your Sheriff, and I will continue to serve with the same dedication, integrity, and commitment that you have come to expect. There is still important work to do, and I intend to give it everything I have until my final day in office.
When that day eventually comes, I look forward to stepping back, spending more time with my beautiful grandchildren, and enjoying the next chapter of my life with my family.
While this chapter of public service is coming to a close, don’t mistake it for the end of my commitment to our community. I still believe there is far too much at stake for our families, our neighborhoods, and the future of New York to simply walk away. Public service takes many forms, and I fully expect to continue being part of the conversation and working for the values we all share. So, while I may be closing one chapter, I assure you the story isn’t over just yet.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for giving me the privilege to serve this remarkable county. It has truly been the greatest honor of my life.
May God bless each of you, the men and women who wear the badge, and may God continue to bless Albany County.
Sheriff Craig D. Apple Sr.
